IKEA opened it’s first-ever store in Hyderabad, India on Thursday. The store offers an array of home furnishing options with great quality and yet affordable products. The store by the world’s renowned Swedish home furnishing retailer was poured by public wanting to get a glimpse of the products and the predicted footfall was to be over 30,000. The store is set across an enormous 4 lac sq.ft area, which is said to be the hugest solo branded outlet in India.
By 4 p.m. the store experienced around 10,000 customers, however later more number of people thronged by the store as techies visited post their office hours. The area experienced a huge traffic snarl right in the center of the Hi-Tech city; the IKEA employees had to handle the customers by asking them to come in batches.
For the matter of fact, the store experienced such a turnout that social media was thronged with videos and pictures of swelling crowds who were trying to get into the store. While inside the store, several shoppers stated that they were really excited to find out that this store in India is exactly the same as the IKEA stores in US, Sweden or Singapore.
Telangana’s industry minister KT Rama Rao formally inaugurated the store. Accompanying him was the store’s first customer Rajni Venugopal in the inauguration. This first IKEA store has opened after 5 years of receiving the approval from the government in 2013 wherein the deal of investing Rs 10,500 crore in order to open 25 stores across India by the end of 2025.
However, the company has now decided on opening 40 stores and is planning to approach the government with the revised plan. IKEA will be opening the next store in Navi Mumbai by next summer which will be later followed by Delhi and Bengaluru. Eventually in the next phase, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Kolkatta are also welcoming IKEA in their cities.
IKEA assures that there is something or the others for everyone to buy. The company has put together home furnishing solutions by personally taking Indians’ inputs. They visited 1000 homes in India to have an understanding of everybody’s life at home, their needs, dreams, frustrations, etc.
